For fans of Bluegrass, Balkan, Celtic, World, Gypsy Jazz, Folk, or Funk, the music will both delight and surprise. The band brings high-energy fun performance and an all-age appeal.

Individual Bio's:

The Center for Spiritual Awakenings beloved musical director and piano prodigy Michael Martinez brings a polished new age jazz sound to the group...watch out for his otherworldly solos, they just might transport you to another dimension!

Fiddle phenom Peter Mellinger hails from Carmel Valley and is well versed in both Classical, Celtic, Jazz, World, and Bluegrass (a rare combination in any performer) and has been playing with Dave Holodiloff since 2010.

Bill Sullivan is an all around stand up guy and stand up bass player who lays the groove down like nobody else! In addition to being a steady member of Dave's Band since 2012, Bill also freelances with Blues and Rock 'n' Roll groups across the bay.

Lex Olsen is a dynamic Gypsy and Jazz guitarist who cut his chops touring with gypsy jazz ensembles like Farouche in the Bay Area. He exudes a refreshing youthful energy and adds that unmistakeable "Django-esque" gypsy flavor to the ensemble.

Steve Robertson is a multi-dimensional percussionist and educator. He brings a wealth of jazz and world music knowledge to the ensemble and keeps the heart beating within all of us. A graduate of San Jose University with a BA in Music Performance and Education, Steve has been active in performing, producing, and teaching in the Bay Area for more than 25 years.
Dave Holodiloff is a mandolin player, vocalist, composer, and band leader known for his inventive arrangements, expressive musicianship and ability to inspire partnerships with amazing musicians. Dave has made a name for himself both as a performer at festivals and concert venues and as an acoustic event entertainment specialist, bringing the party to weddings and events throughout Northern California and beyond. A devoted craftsman on the mandolin, his diverse recordings include Original Music, Balkan, Bluegrass, Jazz, Celtic, World Favorites, Holiday Classics, and even a Grateful Dead Bluegrass Tribute.

Dave will be continuing the celebration of his latest 2018 release, "Balkan String Projekt", with a full ensemble to bring the party. The evening's repertoire will include Balkan Folk-Fusion in addition to some of Dave's originals and some surprises;)
One night only! You won't want to miss this special evening of acoustic string band Gypsy Balkan Fusion at it's finest from Dave's talented ensemble of musicians. Jump on a musical caravan and be taken away to the beautiful melodies of Romania, Serbia, Greece, Moldova, Turkey, Bulgaria, and beyond!
The all star band features violin prodigy Peter Mellinger, upright bassist Bill Sullivan, gypsy guitar wizard Lex Olsen, percussionist extraordinaire Steve Robertson, and multi-talented local favorite Michael Martinez on piano! Band leader, singer, and mandolinist Dave Holodiloff pulls the best musicians of the Central Coast together in a united vision to create amazing music in a style that is all his own!
About the 2018 "Balkan String Projekt" CD: The concept for the album came about after Dave befriended traveling guitar player Zac Misri on tour in the USA with his Balkan-Gypsy Jazz Band from Europe. After playing a few Balkan tunes together and feeling the incredible synergy between the strings of the guitar and mandolin, Dave quickly added bandmates Bill Sullivan (bass) and Peter Mellinger (violin) to the mix and the Balkan String Projekt was born! The evolution of the group for live performance has currently expanded to include Lex Olsen on guitar, Steve Robertson on percussion, and Michael Martinez on piano.
Going beyond the old world melodies and dance rhythms of Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey, the album often blurs the lines between jazz, jam, and traditional Balkan folk. Furthermore, the common theme of stringed instruments playing the lead melodies and improvisational solos adds to the unique sonic landscape the group is able to create. Michael Martinez adds a new age classical jazz piano sound on select tracks, taking the arrangements to an alternate dimension.
Dave's fresh take on songs of the old world will surprise and delight both fans of the mandolin and Traditional Balkan Folk music. Balkan folk dancers will love the diverse variety of Coceks, Geamparales, Ratchentitsas, Kopanitsas, Horas, and a host of other assymetrical rhythms to dance the night away to!
